About Us

A Small School with a Big Vision

Roman Avery Academy is an intentionally small, independent school in Lorain County, Ohio, created to provide students with a personalized educational experience where every child is known, supported, and challenged to reach their full potential. Currently serving students in Kindergarten through Eighth Grade, with planned expansion into high school over the coming years, our vision is to provide families with a complete educational journey—from the earliest years through graduation—in an environment where relationships, innovation, and individualized learning remain at the heart of everything we do.

We believe smaller learning environments create stronger relationships, greater student engagement, and more opportunities to meet the individual needs of each learner. Our goal has never been to become the largest school. Our goal is to create a school community where students feel valued, families feel connected, and learning is meaningful.

Learning That Goes Beyond the Classroom

Our instructional model helps students understand not only what they are learning, but why it matters. Students participate in engaging, interdisciplinary experiences that connect literacy, mathematics, science, technology, social studies, and the arts.

Rather than simply memorizing information, students are encouraged to ask questions, investigate ideas, collaborate with others, create solutions, and apply their learning to authentic challenges. These experiences build curiosity, independence, resilience, and a genuine love of learning.

Life skills education is a cornerstone of the Roman Avery Academy experience.

During afternoon workshops, students participate in practical learning experiences such as:

• Home maintenance and organization

• Technology and creative design
• Fine arts and hands-on exploration

These opportunities help bridge the gap between academic learning and everyday life while fostering teamwork, responsibility, confidence, and independence.

Roman Avery Academy is committed to preparing students not only for the next grade level, but for careers and opportunities that may not yet exist. Through project-based learning, engineering design, career exploration, entrepreneurship, and emerging technologies, students develop the critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving skills needed to thrive in an ever-changing world.
